Osama Bin Laden's Death Email Scams, Fake Antivirus, and Phishing Attack Warning

Users should be aware of potential email scams, fake antivirus, and
phishing attacks regarding Osama Bin Laden's death. Email scams may
contain links or attachments that may direct users to malicious
websites. Fake antivirus attacks may come in the form of pop-ups that
flash security warnings and ask the user for credit card
information. Phishing emails and websites requesting personal
information commonly appear after this type of news.
US-CERT encourages users to take the following measures to protect
themselves:
* Do not follow unsolicited web links or attachments in email
messages.
* Maintain up-to-date antivirus software.
* Review the Recognizing Fake Antivirus document for additional
information regarding fake antivirus.
* Refer to the Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing
Attacks document for additional information on social engineering
attacks.

Digital Copy Machines. Your personal info in the wrong hands.
Some of you may have procedures for cleaning data from you digital scanner/copiers before they leave your office.
I am betting that most still don’t and we are seeing more and more of these machines.
Don’t let these scanner/copiers out of your office without getting scrubbed first.
Deleting the data is not enough. Files that were simply deleted can be recovered easily.
Talk with your copier vendors about sanitizing the machines before they leave your office.
